Results Week Ending 13th September

Summer finally arrived in Castlegregory over the weekend and the sunshine and high temperatures were matched by some sizzling scoring in the Captains’ prizes to the ‘opposite’ clubs. The Captains’ competitions were postponed because of bad weather on Sunday last and took place instead on Saturday 12th with a shotgun start at 3 p.m.  A large number of members turned out, with dress codes abandoned as shorts and scanty tops were the order of the day. Never before have so many pure white limbs been on display during Castlegregory competitions. The Ladies however were dressed properly and brought much needed propriety to the event.

New talent on the Ladies scene, Alana Rowan, shot the lights out to win the Ladies event by a Tiger-like margin of seven points. The talk around the clubhouse was that Alana is going to be at least as good a golfer as her father John, and probably better than Jason. The minor placing were filled by Edel Randles, who had the advantage of having an extra playing partner, and the ever consistent Marian Kennedy. Our very classy President Ger Callanan hit a top class 40 points to take Lady Captain Sandra’s prize at his ease, from Neil Meade and young Jason Rowan.

On Sunday morning the troops were out again for the Fermoyle Cup in a three person classic format. The very young 40 year old Pat Doody was joined on the victory podium by the young-at -heart and very fit duo of Sean Leen and Mike Spillane. The Limerick based Earlie O’Connor gang took the runner-up spot.
