Ladies Junior Foursomes

Roving reporter, Management Hon Sec, 9s of Kerry team member, poet and Munster rugby fanatic (some would say just fanatic) Mike Keane writes:

 

Castlegregory v Kenmare

 

Having been involved in the wonderful victory over Ardfert in the Kerry Nines Final in Castlerosse on Friday and more especially in the post match celebrations (some were even heard singing after midnight !! while others were partying again on Saturday night !?!?) our junior foursomes team looked remarkably fresh on Sunday, in Killorglin against Kenmare GC.

In fact such was the level of performance, one would have to ask about all these fancy modern theories of team preparation & instead just have a good party before a match !!

 

Match 1 - Teresa Rice & Liz O' Carroll - were never led from start to finish. Turning 1up, they held the lead to finish on the 17th green with a great par. 3 & 1

Match 2 - Lady Captain Merlyn O'Connor & Marie McCarthy - in a very close ding-dong match, led until the turn and then went 2 down before coming back to level, went one down again but came back to level after 16 and were called in. 0.5 - 0.5

Match 3 - (Team manager & Scratch Cup winner) Edel Randles & Mary Sills started off with a win & were never led although playing conservatively. Having turned level, Mary's drive onto the 10th green got them going and they won 5 on the trot & finished on the 15th green - 5 & 3

 

Great win - (2.5 / 0.5) with some wonderful golf. Next round will be against Killarney on w/end of 24/25 May in Castleisalnd. Date & time to be confirmed.

Nines of Kerry 2007 Final


The final of the 2007 (don't ask) Nines of Kerry Vs. Ardfert was played in Castlerosse on Friday 9th May. Result: Castlegregory 3, Ardfert 2. This was a brilliant and hard fought win against a very strong and sporting Ardfert team. As in our victory in 2005, the match went down to the wire - the 18th green of the deciding match. While this time the birdie was not needed - just a solid two-putt par from a very solid pairing - it was a nail-biting finish, particularly for our large band of supporters. This was a total team effort and a mighty victory for the whole club. It was achieved on the field of play in the true spirit of golf - in a very sporting and honourable fashion. The celebrations went on well into Saturday morning and are already being spoken of in legendary terms. A whole new cadre of singers, poets, raconteurs and drinkers emerged. More on this will appear on the website over the coming week or so......watch this space.
